Cyprus is a popular holiday destination that can be reached via boat from ports such as Piraeus in Athens to Limassol and Larnaca, or by plane direct from the UK. There are many budget and regular airlines that operate direct flights from major cities within the UK to Cyprus.
Once in Cyprus there are dozens of resorts and small towns where you can locate accommodation, although the most popular tourist areas are generally found in the capital city of Nicosia or in the towns of Larnaca, Ayia Napa, and Limassol. Of the four, Ayia Napa is considered the party town and is the best place for young holiday makers and singles to head to.

Primarily Cyprus is a mix of Turkish and Greek traditions, which allows you to experience a heady mix of both cultures in one visit. The locals are also very friendly which always makes for an enjoyable stay.

Among the prime tourist sites that one must check out while in Cyprus are the Folk Art Museum, the Hamam Omerye, the ‘green line’ which divides the capital city, the Aphrodite temple, the Limassol Castle, and the Larnaca Salt Lake, especially if your holiday takes place during the winter season. Additionally, there are dozens of historical sites spread around the island and museums that allow visitors to learn about both the islands and Europe’s history.
While in Cyprus visitors should also take the chance to try the Cypriot wine and sample a drink called the Zivania. The cuisine is also quite tasty, in particular the Cypriot meze, and any of the popular Halloum dishes. For those who are not to adventurous, there are also plenty of restaurants that feature Greek, Mediterranean, Turkish, and many European cuisines.
For the most part in Cyprus you can expect to pay from 15 Euros to 50 Euros for quality dining options, with accommodation set reasonably and varies from 25 Euros for budget options and around 85 Euros for more quality hotels.
Accommodation rates also vary by season, particularly in Protaras and Ayia Napa where it can be hard to find accommodation openings during the high season due to the abundance of nightlife.
There are also a handful of villas and guest houses that can be rented out for a holiday stay if you are travelling with a larger group. In addition, Pafos, Larnaca, and Nicosia also have youth hostels, but age restrictions do apply in some cases so make sure you do your research before planning a trip.
